| Ignacio Burgos New Paintings | ||
Burgos discovers these phenomena in the fleeting visions we share everyday. He chooses modern-day and lesser-celebrated icons such as stock market brokers with their anguished look, visitors sternly contemplating masterpieces in a museum, and a soccer player injured and lying on his back. The scenes are as common as McDonald's signs in the age of globalization. What makes us feel so close to these stockbrokers without knowing them personally is BurgosÍ uncanny ability to speak to his viewers by touching their emotions. |

Ignacio Burgos was born in Madrid in 1967. Between 1986 and 1991 he studied painting at Complutense University of Madrid. After his graduation, he studied for two years at Hochschule der Kunste, a renowned art school in Berlin. Between 1994 and 1998 he lived and worked in New York. Soon after his return to Europe, he took a residency at the Cite Internationale des Arts, Paris. At present, he works out of his studio in Madrid. Burgos has been exhibited in galleries and museums throughout Europe and produced several significant catalogs. In New York, M.Y. ART PROSPECTS has organized successful solo exhibitions of Burgos in 1998, 1999, and 2001. At the opening of this fourth solo exhibition at M.Y. ART PROSPECTS, Burgos will present a new retrospective catalog of his work. Entitled "The BOOK", this catalog features photographic documentation of Burgos' activities spanning from 1989 to the present, together with a dramatic presentation of paintings and works on paper selected by the artist and Adan R. Burgos. The catalog includes a special essay by Manuel Romero, an art critic and commissioner of international exhibitions working closely with the Cultural Ministry of Spain.
